Homeowners Associations (HOA) are clearly unamerican if a homeowner cannot opt out. Paying a mandatory fee and giving up your freedom to manage your property as you see fit are not consistent with American values of freedom and independence.

HOAs should make all fees voluntary and not have the power to tell anyone, member or not, what to do with their property or the appearance of it. Otherwise, members trade their freedom for a light version of tyranny. Voluntary participation in an HOA for access to a shared swimming pool or what not is consistent with American values, as long as it's voluntary.

Please stop tyranny and sign this petition to outlaw mandatory participation (fees and penalties) in HOAs.
