Out of the Shadows, Into Our Hearts: Protect Romulus Community Cats
The Issue

The Reality: Hidden, watchful, and waiting. For many cats in Romulus, life is a daily struggle for safety in the shadows.

The Goal: Trust, connection, and safety. This is the bond we can build when we stop criminalizing compassion and start supporting care.
My Story:
Look at the first photo. That is where many see "just a stray"—a cat hiding in the landscaping, trying to stay invisible. But look at the second photo, and you will see the truth. When given patience and care, that "stray" becomes a friend, a companion, and a living being capable of deep trust and love.
I am a resident of Romulus who creates these connections every day. I don't just "feed animals"; I build bridges of trust with cats who have been let down by the world. But right now, local policies make it difficult for caretakers like me to bring them out of the shadows.
The Problem:
Without an official Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program and community support, the cats you see hiding in the bushes are at risk. Current approaches that favor removal or inaction sever the bonds between these animals and the residents who care for them. It forces compassionate neighbors to operate in silence, fearing for the safety of the animals they love.
The Solution:
We are asking the City of Romulus to recognize that compassion is a strength, not a nuisance. We need:
1. Protection for Caretakers: Policies that support, rather than penalize, residents who responsibly feed and care for community cats.
2. TNR Support: A humane, city-backed program to manage the population while allowing cats to live out their lives safely in their home territory.
3. A Seat at the Table: Listen to the people who know these cats best—the ones who look them in the eye and earn their trust.
4. "Fiscal Responsibility: Taxpayers should not be funding a failed 'catch and kill' cycle that costs nearly double the price of humane TNR. We demand a solution that is both kind to animals and smart for our city budget."
Why Sign?
Because no animal should have to live in fear in the bushes when they could be safe and loved. Please help us turn Romulus into a community that protects its most vulnerable residents—both human and feline.
