Our precious PETS need this UK Law changed! PETS are NOT ‘chattel’ they’re our family!
The Issue
The purpose of this petition is to reach out to as many individuals as possible, in hope that the Government will exercise their power to get laws changed so that our companion animals are seen as living beings and not objects or ‘chattel’, which is how they’re seen at present.
Although we as animal lovers and pet owners see our beloved companion animals as family members and best friends, UK law states that pets are considered property, so therefore they’re objects and possessions that we own.
With this law in place, it is creating loopholes that permits certain people to do what they wish with very limited repercussions. Yes, there are laws protecting animal rights/welfare that are in place, but it is not doing much when it comes to justice for our beloved pets, if UK law continues to view living beings as "property".
If nothing changes, it means that if a pet dies due to neglect, it’s very hard to sue the offending party. It’s also not like a human dying due to neglect, and the offending parties being suspended until investigations conclude; all parties are still allowed to practice and the investigations can take a long time. This obviously then potentially puts other pets in danger.
Obviously these things aren’t about money, and things do need to be investigated fully, but if there’s no repercussions for some people, especially those who possibly aren’t doing their job properly or for the love of our dear pets, then where is the incentive for them to do their best and the deterrent if they don't or are lax?!
We want our pets treated with the same compassion and respect as any living being. This means we want them to be seen as a life, they’re a family member and not as possessions or objects in which we own. We are meant to be guardians of these pets, these lives, NOT owners.
We want more consequences in place for if things aren’t done as they should be!

In memory of Lexi Lou & Milo - our beloved dogs who died after they were overdosed by the vets. Our story is below. We’re still trying to gain justice for them.
