We are in the early years of forming our fantastic new community of Hanwood Park. We were sold a vision of a self-contained community with our own district centre, local facilities and schools. The decision has been made to push through a boys only school in the centre of our community. We will have four primary schools and only one secondary which, if this decision is approved, will be inaccessible to our girls. The projected pupil yield from Hanwood Park is 1100 secondary pupils.

Kettering had a boys' school and it was closed because it didn't work. The Local Authority wanted to close Southfield School for Girls in 1988 and this was only avoided by the school leaving the LA and becoming Grant Maintained. The imbalance of school places should not be addressed by building a school only for boys. We should have access to a co-ed school in the centre of our community.

This application has been presented as a 'done deal'. It's not! Southfield School still have to complete a Section 10 Consultation. Don't let this just be a formality where we're told what's going to happen. Add your voice to the growing number of concerned parents and local residents and say NO!
