Our Community Isn't a Gamble

The Issue

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We are deeply concerned about the potential proposal to construct a casino and horse racing track on the west side of Decatur. As longtime residents spanning four generations of our family's history here, we understand the significant impacts such a development will have on our community.

Decatur has faced economic challenges, but our resilience and community spirit have always prevailed. Introducing a casino and horse racing track will lead to increased gambling addictions, higher crime rates, and decreased property values in residential areas. These impacts will unquestionably harm our community.

Furthermore, placing such a facility in our neighborhood risks disrupting the positive momentum we've been building. The west side of Decatur is flourishing with small businesses and a strong sense of community. A large-scale gambling facility will jeopardize this progress and diminish the quality of life for all residents.

As stewards of our community's well-being, we have a responsibility to protect against these inevitable harms. Instead of gambling on our future, let's invest in initiatives that enhance our neighborhoods, bolster small businesses, and foster sustainable growth. This is the path to ensuring a thriving, safe, and vibrant Decatur for generations to come.

Join us in urging our city leaders to reconsider this and any proposal like it. Let's prioritize the well-being of our families, the future of our children, and the values that make Decatur a truly exceptional place to live.

Sign this petition to say "No" to the casino and horse racing track, and "Yes" to a flourishing, safe, and united Decatur.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Sincerely,

Adam Troxell II, Adam Troxell Sr., Lora Troxell, Neighbors, Friends and Family
