Our Children's Right to an Education - Safety in Moreton BaySchools
The issue
In Moreton Bay, Queensland, our schools have become places of fear rather than places of learning for many children. As a parent, watching my child fearful of attending school is deeply distressing. They have been targeted, assaulted, and subjected to the traumatic experience of bullying. The fear of being attacked is so pervasive that they're even scared to use the bathrooms, afraid of encountering students who are vaping or loitering with harmful intent.
This is not what education is meant to be about. Schools should be sanctuaries where children feel safe, secure, and supported in their learning journeys. However, the reality in Moreton Bay is far from this ideal. Chronic bullying and violence are prevalent, creating an environment where young people fear for their physical and mental well-being instead of thriving academically and socially.
We need immediate action from school administrators, local government, and the community to promote a culture of safety and respect in our educational institutions. Current processes in place just are not working. We need more for our children.
We need more comprehensive anti-bullying policies, increased presence of security personnel, support and counseling services for affected students, and encouragement of open dialogues among students, teachers, and parents.
This isn't just about reducing numbers; it's about ensuring that every child in Moreton Bay can attend school without the looming shadow of fear.
Let's stand together to make our schools in Moreton Bay a safe haven for our children. Please sign this petition to advocate for immediate and effective measures that protect our young ones and give them the chance to learn in peace and safety. Every signature counts in the fight to bring change and hope to our community.
