Sustainable Wolf Hunting Must Remain An Option

The Issue

The state of Oregon is required by law (ORS 496.012) to maximize wildlife for the enjoyment of all Oregonians - hikers, hunters, environmentalist, and anti-hunters alike.

Therefore, in addition to the reasons outlined below, wolf hunting, when sustainable, must remain an option in Oregon's wolf management plan.

Approximately, 300,000 Oregonians actively engage in the success of conservation known as the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation through hunting. Together Oregon sportsmen and women generate a $1.8 billion economic ripple effect annually. This funds the preservation of all wildlife, including wolves, creates millions in tax revenue, and supports thousands of local jobs critical to Oregon's economy.

For the success of conservation as we know it to continue, Oregon needs a strong base of huntable wildlife such as deer, elk, bear, waterfowl, etc. Without sustainable and abundant huntable wildlife these funds will undoubtedly decline, placing all wildlife conservation efforts at risk.

Sportsmen want all wildlife to have a place in Oregon, including wolves, and that means hunting, when sustainable, must remain an option.
