It is only a matter of time until immigrant detention centers become overwhelmed by Covid-19. Many will die. We all know how shabby, inefficient and money-obsessed our healthcare system is. For those in custody it is much, much, worse. 

The value of a human life is the same no matter whether you have money or not, no matter where you were born. 

It is not too late to prevent this completely foreseeable tragedy.

All ICE detainees must be released immediately, before Covid-19 rips through these overcrowded, understaffed internment camps. 

Crossing the border in search of a better life for yourself and your children must not be a death sentence. The US government is totally unprepared and ill-equipped to keep those in its custody safe, and therefore has a moral and legal obligation to release them. 

This petition will be presented at a press conference on Monday, March 16, at 4 p.m. at the United States District Court in Detroit. Attorneys will file a motion for the release of ICE detainees Ali Al-Sadoon, Oliver Awshana and Wassam Hamama.
