Optimization of the American Holiday Calendar

Optimization of the American Holiday Calendar
The Issue
Proposal:
- Shift Halloween to October 15
- Shift Thanksgiving to second Thursday of November
Holidays hold a special place in my family’s life. We cherish the delightful traditions of Halloween and the warmth of Thanksgiving, but often, the joy is hampered by inconvenient weather conditions and a hectic year-end schedule. By shifting Halloween and Thanksgiving to two weeks earlier, we can enhance these cherished celebrations for everyone involved.
Halloween often competes with cold temperatures and early darkness, which can diminish the experience for trick-or-treaters. By moving it two weeks earlier, we would not only enjoy milder weather but also longer daylight hours, allowing for more time to safely enjoy the festivities and engage with our communities.
Similarly, Thanksgiving marks a time for family gatherings and sharing gratitude, but as it stands now, the holiday often coincides with the onset of winter. This can deter travel and keep families from experiencing the scenic beauty and bounty of autumn. Moving Thanksgiving two weeks earlier would ensure that fall weather and its associated traditions are fully appreciated, enhancing the holiday experience.
Furthermore, this adjustment provides more breathing room before the Christmas season. The proximity of Thanksgiving and the holiday shopping rush often results in a chaotic overlap, overshadowing the true spirit of gratitude and togetherness that Thanksgiving embodies.
By implementing this shift, not only are we creating a smoother transition between the major holidays of the last quarter of the year, but we’re also amplifying the joy and meaning they bring. This proposed change in the holiday schedule is logical and strategic, promising enriched experiences and improved planning for families across the nation.
Join me in petitioning for a reconsideration of the American holiday schedule to better align with our seasonal traditions and familial values. Let’s make our holidays even more memorable for the benefit of all American families. Sign and support this petition to make this thoughtful change a reality!
