Opt-in for Area E (Naramata) to Provincial Short Term Rental Regulations

Opt-in for Area E (Naramata) to Provincial Short Term Rental Regulations

The Issue

After years of petitions, public meetings and letters written to local and provincial governments about the effects on our community of whole house short term rentals, the Province of BC has recently created Short Term Rental Legislation that will help bring back some balance in the long term rental housing market and stop the commercialization of residential housing.

This legislation requires that an owner or long term resident live onsite when part of the home is being rented as a short term rental.  However, as a Village of only 2,000 Naramata is not covered by this new legislation and our Area Director needs to vote to opt-in for Area E (Naramata) by the end of March 2024.  If we don't opt in there will be even more pressure on Naramata's housing market due to being outside of the legislation imposed on neighbouring communities with a population over 10,000.

I am signing this petition to tell our Area E Director to do the right thing for the community and vote to opt-in to the Provincial Short Term Rental Legislation immediately.

I want places for all people and income levels to live and work in Naramata.
