Here is a great opportunity to further voice your concerns directly to our councilwomen about the proposed 7-Eleven at 3rd and Redondo: Jeannine Pearce (2nd District) and Suzie Price (3rd District) Bluff Heights Neighborhood Forum Date: January 18th at 7:00 PM Location: Horace Mann Elementary Auditorium (corner of E Mariquita St. and Obispo Ave.) For those interested, here is a very timely report that substantiates the concerns supported by this petition. The Los Angeles County of Public Health produced a very recent Alcohol Outlet Density study (November 2016). http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/sapc/MDU/SpecialReport/AODC2013.pdf "Cities and communities with a high density of off-premises alcohol outlets were 3.7 times more likely to have violent crime rates than cities and communities with a low density of off-premises alcohol outlets." It also states, "The association between on-premises outlets and violent crimes was not statistically significant." Our petition language reflects this difference in establishments, by being opposed to the convenience store / 7-Eleven (i.e. off-premise) and in favor of high quality retail or restaurants (i.e. on-premise in the case of a restaurant). The language within the Conditional Use Permit (CUP), states the proposed project is within a census tract with an over-concentration of "off-premise" or "off-site" liquor licenses, not "on-premise" or "on-site" liquor licenses.
