Friends, Neighbours, Parents, Families,
We have been working together for 486 days (+ nights) now to save our neighbourhood + bring about a successful solution for social housing on the corner of Arbutus and 7/8th Avenues that will well serve + protect ALL those vulnerable.
What have we accomplished so far?
We have the attention of Council. Nearly 1,000 wrote in opposing and providing alternative solutions, including social workers, doctors, + even those that need supportive housing.
Members of Council have acknowledged that changes or amendments are both needed + possible. As much as that might be, we still need to stand firm in opposition as the site is by ALL measurable, qualitative and statistical data set to fail.
We have attracted nearly 50,000 impressions and have built a list of over 1,250 concerned citizens like you via the Change.org petition.
That said, none of the above matters AT ALL if we sit on our hands + don't pen or speak opposition to Council before + at the Public Hearing scheduled to begin June 28.
What we need to do now is:
1 / Sign up to volunteer with the Kitsilano Coalition. There is a Day of Action planned + they are building a team to go out into the community to ensure just as many people are informed + have the opportunity to weigh in at this critical junction.
2/ Submit Comments to Council BEFORE June 28. https://vancouver.ca/your-government/contact-council-public-hearing.aspx
> SUBJECT: CD-1 Rezoning: 2086-2098 West 7th Avenue, and 2091 West 8th Avenue
> POSITION: Opposed
> COMMENTS: Have at 'er.
3/ Sign up to speak at the Public Hearing and if you can convince ONE more person to do the same in Opposition. You can sign up to speak from June 17 onwards. https://council.vancouver.ca/20220628/phea20220628ag.htm
My very best, always,
