Oppose the solar panel farm at 630 Sacandaga Rd
The Issue
Homeowners within the vicinity of 630 Sacandaga Road received a letter from NexAmp for a proposed solar installation project planned for that location.
We, the undersigned residents of Glenville, NY, hereby express our strong opposition to the proposed construction of solar panel farms in our town located at 630 Sacandaga Road. This construction will take place on Van Voast Lane, Sacandaga Road, and the property reaches as far as Maura Lane off of Spring Road.
We believe large scale solar farms in our community will have several adverse effects that must be considered.
These are our primary concerns:
Environmental Impact - The proposed solar farms will require clearing of 65+ acres of land, which cant lead to habitat destruction, loss of biodiversity, and disruption to our local ecosystems. This is counterproductive to our community's efforts to preserve Glenville Green Space and to protect wildlife. This can interfere with wildlife movement and migration routes.
Visual and Aesthetic Concerns - The land proposed for this solar farm is currently zoned for agriculture or residential.
Property Values - Numerous studies have shown that the proximity of large-scale solar farms can negatively impact property values by 7% decreased. This potential depreciation poses a financial risk to homeowners and may reduce the overall economic vitality of our town.
Health and Safety Concerns - The installation and maintenance of solar farms may pose health and safety risks, including potential electromagnetic fields (EMF) exposure and the risk of fire from electrical faults. This potential solar farm site is already located next to the National Grid gas line and power line. These risks need thorough investigation and transparent communication to the community. We, the undersigned, request a comprehensive review of the proposed project, including environmental assessments and public consultations to ensure that our voices and concerns in the community are herd and that the decision making process is transparent and inclusive.
