Oppose the Right to Work Bill Threatening Union Construction Workers
The Issue
My journey as a union construction worker has been defined by extensive schooling and certifications, toward becoming not just a worker but a highly skilled, safe, and a competent professional. We union workers constantly strive for excellence thanks to our union representation. This capacity to excel is endangered by the Right to Work bill. This legislation heaps injustice on union construction workers by threatening our hard-earned pay, benefits, and protective measures, and by promoting less qualified workers.
The National Right to Work Committee's report of 2019 reveals that in "right-to-work" states, average annual wages are 3% lower than in non-"right-to-work" states (source: Economic Policy Institute). In an age where economic inequality is already rampant, this legislation would further squeeze union workers.
Furthermore, unionized construction workers received 13% higher wages than their non-union counterparts (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018). By imposing the Right to Work bill, we risk retrogressing instead of progressing towards fair pay for skilled labor.
The Right to Work bill is more than a threat - it's a ticking time bomb placed under the considerable contributions that we, union construction workers, have made, and continue to make, towards improving the safety standards and quality of construction work in America.
Join hands to safeguard our hard-earned advantages, our rights, and our dignified life. Oppose the Right to Work bill. Sign this petition today.
