Oppose the removal of the School crossing Patrol officers
The Issue
I, Emma Lockhart and members of Bridge of Allan Primary school and the local community strongly oppose the removal of our school crossing patrol officer Ian Wright and the other 5 school crossing patrol officers across Stirling council due to financial Council cuts.
The School patrol officers presence is essential for ensuring the safety of our children as they cross the roads on their way to and from school- specifically at the Cornton Road/ Pullar avenue junction.
For many years these officers have provided a vital service not only protecting our children and keeping them safe, but they also encourage drivers to slow down, be more cautious and reduce accidents.
Removing these positions poses a significant risk for child safety across Stirlingshire and particularly at this junction.
Beyond safety, their role fosters a sense of community to help create a more connected neighbourhood. Their role promotes children walking to and from school which have many health and environmental benefits. Many children walk with friends or independently to school safe in the knowledge that Ian is there waiting for them. This opportunity helps build resilience and the experience provides children with real world skills that prepare them for larger challenges in life. Removing this vital role will hinder this experience for many children.
The safety and wellbeing of our children should never be compromised for financial reasons.
I, we ask that you sign this position to stop the removal of these vital roles across Stirling.
