The Issue

In our community, stray dogs are not just animals that roam the streets – they are cherished members of our lives. We take care of more than 60 strays, having vaccinated them, taken them for treatments, and raised them since birth. To us, they are like family, part and parcel of our daily existence. Their presence in our lives enriches us beyond measure, offering companionship, loyalty, and unconditional love. When the Supreme Court of India considers removing these strays from Delhi and NCR, it feels like someone is coming to kidnap my kids. It is agonizing to think that these innocent creatures, who have known nothing but love in their current homes, might be taken away.

Removing stray dogs is not a solution to urban problems; it’s avoiding the real issues. Delhi-NCR has more pressing concerns that require immediate attention, such as pollution, traffic congestion, and poverty. Animals, especially those that do not pose any harm, should not bear the brunt of misguided policies that fail to address the underlying challenges faced by urban areas. The focus should be on effective population control measures, promoting community animal care programs, and ensuring their well-being.

Numerous studies have shown that the humane management of stray animal populations through vaccination and sterilization is much more effective than mass removal. According to a report by the World Health Organization, well-managed stray populations can contribute positively to urban environments by reducing waste, controlling certain pests, and providing emotional support to residents.

Delhi boasts a vibrant history and a community that prides itself on compassion and cultural richness. Forcing these animals away would not only disrupt this delicate social fabric but would also constitute an affront to the basic tenets of humanity our nation stands for. To those who see the dogs of Delhi as a nuisance, it's crucial to shift the perspective towards understanding and coexistence rather than displacement.

I urge the Supreme Court to halt any plans aimed at stripping our cities of these innocent lives and to, instead, engage with animal welfare communities to create strategies that reflect our shared humanity and promote peaceful cohabitation with our furry neighbors.

Join me in standing against this action. Lend your voice to save the stray dogs of Delhi-NCR. Every signature counts, and together, we can protect our extended family. Sign the petition today to make a difference!
