Update following the Drop in Information Session hosted by the DCC on the 25th July
Dear all
Just an update following the information session hosted by the DCC on Tues the 25th July.
Many of you may have attended and raised your queries/ concerns. I spoke with the project manager and there is a huge gap between the ideological Active Travel Scheme and the practicalities for residents as key stakeholders and tax payers living in the area.
At this stage we need local Council representation, so we are not coerced into this scheme. I have been speaking to Declan Flanagan FG who said he will follow up, but if anyone has been dealing with a Councillor please contact me via my information at bottom of mail. Or if anyone is in a community residence group i.e. Clontarf please contact me, as we need to link in and show that we are not individuals objecting but groups of the community.
in summary I did not get adequate answers on the below:
- The proposed budget for this project, as taxpayers we need clarity and sight of this.
- A cost vs benefit analysis of project.
- The stastical data that proves there are cyclists or ever will be enough cyclists in area to warrant this scheme.
- The traffic chaos and disruption that will ensue by taking away the right hand pocket turns on Brookwood Ave and Sybill Hill approaching the Howth Road.
- The damage and potential damage to tree roots along Gracefield Road and Brookwood Avenue no clarification on whether trees will be cut down or how to stop damage to the tree roots.
- As Brookwood Ave and Gracefield road are terraced there will be no where for visitors to park outside houses (due to parking not permitted on/ near cycle lanes). Some residences do not have converted driveways. There is no solution for this being offered by the DCC.
- There are other points such as a quality of service for cyclists on the route, safety for cyclists etc.
We may as residents impacted need to get together to discuss and plan our next steps. I will be in touch if there is any general meeting planned.
Thanks for your continued support.
