The issue

To the Council for the Order of Australia, the Office of the Governor-General of Australia and the House of Representatives.

We express our strong objection to the nomination of Scott Morrison for the Order of Australia. The Order of Australia is intended to recognise individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service and contributions to our nation, upholding the highest standard of integrity, leadership, and dedication to the Australian community.

We believe Scott Morrison does not meet these standards for the following reasons:
His Government's appalling actions and policies that led to the illegal Robodebt Scheme, which inflicted tremendous harm on Australia's most vulnerable citizens. This unlawful policy led to widespread financial distress, mental health issues, and even loss of life among affected Australians, highlighting serious failures in governance and accountability.
His unethical and secret appointment to five ministries violating the Westminster system of government. The unprecedented act undermined democratic transparency, eroded public trust, and disregarded foundational principles of responsible government.
The awarding of this honour to Scott Morrison disregards the values of truth, fairness, and accountability that Australians hold dear. We urge the Council for the Order of Australia to reconsider this nomination and ensure that recipients reflect the true spirit of service and contribution to our nation.

Sincerely,
