Oppose the Mandated Curriculum for Homeschool Children At Visions of Education Charter

The Issue

Personalizing education to meet the unique needs of each child is a cornerstone of homeschooling and revolutionized many families' learning approaches through organizations like Visions in Education. However, the recent decision to mandate a specific curriculum threatens to strip away the flexibility and individualized learning integral to the central spirit of homeschooling.

For many families, homeschooling was chosen to prevent imposition of a 'cookie-cutter' method inherent in traditional education systems, knowing that a one-size-fits-all approach is rarely beneficial. According to a 2020 NHERI report, over 2.5 million children are currently homeschooled in the U.S., a clear indication that traditional education models do not fully satisfy everyone's needs. This decision negates the very essence of homeschooling and is easily likened to bringing back the square peg in a round hole situation.

Furthermore, the mandate fails to consider that many homeschooling parents teach multiple children of different ages and grades. Standardizing the curriculum limits the possibility of effectively teaching to each child's strengths and capabilities. Instead of fostering creativity and curiosity, this new approach could curb these essential abilities.

Instead of imposing a mandated curriculum, we ask Visions in Education policymakers to support parental choice and individualized learning by revoking this decision OR at a minimum allowing a "homeschool classic" track with the original freedom of curriculum choice once allowed by Visions in Education in years past. Support homeschooling families by preserving the original ethos of tailored education. Your signature can make a difference. Sign this petition to voice your support for personalized homeschooling.
