Oppose The Injustice & Over sentencing Of A Father Of 5 Targeted By The System

The Issue

My father's name is Cornelius Harcum, but I call him King. My father is currently incarcerated in the Maryland state prison & judicial system for attempted murder: a crime of which he was wrongly sentenced. They gave my father attempted murder for a shooting where there was no one present at the time the gun was said to have gone off IN THE AIR. He was arrested in January, indicted by February and sentenced by May of 2019. With no one being injured, hurt, nor present, my father was given 40 years in the Maryland state penitentiary. Now my father is no rookie to the legal system. He was able to beat a lot of time back in the 90's for some mistakes he not only did time for but changed from; however, ever since he's seen the outside world, the state and federally leveled justice league have had it out for my father and anyone that may carry our last name. Once he was capable of becoming a stand-up citizen, he did so by going above and beyond as a successful businessman with his own cleaning company; helping anyone that resurfaced from incarceration and any family member to call and ask for help. He's not just a good father but has always remained a great husband, son and brother. But at the age of 47 when this injustice occurred, it seems that the plan of Maryland state is for me to never be able to hug my father, have him walk me down the aisle, hold my firstborn child or give him back all he's given me and our family from outside of those walls until he's well over 80 yrs. old. Since his incarceration, my father has become an ordained minister, he's been excellent as a barber (a hobby he's honed since childhood), & he even is getting his degree in American studies from Goucher College. I know he has made mistakes; we all have... but to give him half a lifetime for a "crime" where not one person was injured or murdered is insane. My sisters and brother miss their dad; My fiancé' wants to meet his father-in-law but more than anything, I need my best friend. Most girls don't have their father, but I have mine; & though he is as resilient as grandma always said he was, I don't want him to die in a place like prison because someone didn't fight hard enough for his life. So, this is my fight for my dad; my fight for a black man that deserves a chance at making peace with the world; my fight to get to take care of him the way he's always taken care of me. Please, band with me and sign this petition for Justice... At least we can start there & maybe, JUST maybe: I can get my father back. Thank you & Yah Bless to all who this petition may impact.
