This will impact our community as a whole! What may seem small to some newcomers or maybe you've been here a long while and just haven't needed the access to this "dirt lot". We have a developer ( AJA Ventures, LLC) who is trying to develop a HOTEL (short term and long term stays) on this approx. 3.14 acre dirt lot! Location: Stock Trail Rd and S 21st Avenue, Caldwell, Idaho 83605

Here are the points:

• There are MANY events that utilize this parking lot throughout the entire year. This is NOT just a couple times a summer. This is used for horse shows, the Canyon County Fair, the Caldwell Night Rodeo, BMX shows/tournaments, dog shows and many many MANY more things. Not to mention it is also used as a staging area for our local parades as well.
• If you take this lot from the people there will be major issues. The mayor, who clearly does not know anything about the importance of this location for the community that he SERVES, knows nothing about what the parking lot does for his constituents. If he really knew and worked "FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE" He would see that for MONTHS we have showed proof that this is NOT what the people want. As of December 24th, 2024 the poll that our awesome Caldwell, Idaho Community and Crime FB page operator, Eric Phillips, did there were 863 votes AGAINST the hotel (to keep it a dirt lot) and only 38 people in favor!
• There are 2 hotels roughly a mile up the road (right off the interstate) that are RARELY ever capacity! Why do we need another one so close?
• This hotel will be DIRECTLY across the street from the train tracks at a busy road crossing. This means the train WILL and DOES pull the horn as it approaches the intersection. Imagine being dead asleep in the middle of the night, or you worked or drove all night and are trying to sleep in the daytime and a train SHAKES you away with the vibration and the loud train horn doesn't help! NO ONE will want to come back.
• This is NOT like the parking meters that quickly got ripped out once the people of Caldwell got their point across to the people that work for them! This is not a quick "go ahead and pull this up, cancel it". We are talking about a WHOLE hotel! 
• There is a spot that someone brought up and I cannot get behind it enough (sorry I forgot who it was that proposed this but it's the perfect idea). The old Rite Aide building between McDonalds and Taco Bell roughly a mile up the Blvd. would be PERFECT for a hotel! Within walking distance to local eats, gas station, local stores, heck even the even centers like the fair! There is already a parking lot there and it's not directly across the road from the tracks!
• Pushing our kids with FFA and 4H to walk their animals from the lot on the other side of the tracks is not only crazy it is beyond unsafe. Some animals are hard enough to load and unload from the lot. Can you imagine a 14 year old trying to pull their 2,000 pound steer across the tracks and a train comes by, or someone honks which makes the steer go crazy and said 14 year old gets hurt, steer gets loose and then you have an accident! The mayor has not thought this through CLEARLY!
• The Caldwell Bowl is located right across the street from the dirt lot and has offered $1k MORE a year in order to keep it the way it is and please the local people. This also prevents their lot for their customers to remain for THEIR customers! This hotel development is only paying the City of Caldwell $5,000 a YEAR!!!!! A local business offers $6,000, the people get what they want, the city makes more money and we are STILL entertaining the idea of this actually happening!
• At what point does the developer see that they are NOT welcome? At what point do they see we mean business? I wouldn't put a business anywhere I knew I wasn't welcomed. 
• At what point does the Mayor do his JOB? Same goes for most of the City Council? Why so many in favor? What are you getting out of this? You were placed in office to again work FOR THE PEOPLE and you are actively going AGAINST the people. 
• This land was also left to the City by the Griffith family with stipulations that it was to be for the community. This is a selfish venture for personal gain if you ask me and NOT in line with this stipulation. Not to mention Canyon County has also stated that they would fight this as they are to protect the Griffith family name! 

 

Mayor Jarom Wagoner, and council members, Brad Doty, Chris Allgood, Geoff Williams and Mike Dittenber, you should all be ASHAMED of yourselves! As our community grows so will the attendance to these local things that we hold at the Canyon County Fairgrounds, therefore the need for parking will only INCREASE and you are doing yourselves a HUGE diservice by TAKING it from the people! Talk about a hostile take over! 

As for Diana Register and Chuck Stadick. We appreciate you! We see you ARE for the people! You listen, you think things over and are not quick to pad your pockets of the greed or power that others in our local government have! Thank you! 

 

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION IN OPPOSITION!  There is a PUBLIC hearing (although no one has speaking rights) TONIGHT (2/3/25) in order to approve or deny the deal. HOWEVER, each party (City of Caldwell or AJA Ventures, LLC) has 30 days to pull out of the deal even if it is approved. This is our LAST DITCH EFFORT to be seen, to be heard and to stand up to this crooked local government! DON'T GIVE UP! Williams contacted the County to have a sit down conversation but Mayor Wagoner REFUSED!
