Oppose the Construction of Additional Wind Farms and Industrial Turbines in Our Community

The Issue

Our community has already welcomed 13 wind turbines. As local inhabitants, the growing number of turbines not only affects the beauty of our landscape, but also raises concerns about noise pollution and possible health impacts for those living in close proximity to these structures.

The World Health Organization acknowledges that noise from wind turbines can cause sleep disturbance, which can then lead to other health conditions like stress, cognitive impairment, and cardiovascular diseases (WHO, 2018). In addition to health risks, wind farms can also pose threats to local wildlife, notably birds and bats. A study from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute estimates that between 140,000 and 328,000 birds die each year due to collisions with wind turbines in the U.S (Loss, S., 2013).

It's also important to mention that community support is vital for the success of renewable energy projects. In an analysis of wind power development in U.S communities, 90% of unsuccessful projects were plagued by community opposition (Strachan, P.A., Lal, D., 2004). It's vital that our voices are heard, and we are given the opportunity to influence decisions that substantially impact our lives.

I urge you to join me in saying no to further wind farm and industrial turbine development in our area. Your signature on this petition will help communicate our shared concerns to An Bord Pleanala. Sign the petition to preserve our community's health, tranquility, and local wildlife. Let’s uphold the character of our community together.
