Update: The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026 has now been listed for consideration and passing in Parliament in the coming week.
This means the window for public engagement is extremely short. The petition opposing the amendment has already crossed 18,000 signatures, reflecting growing concern about the proposed changes and their impact on the principle of self-identified gender recognition recognized by the Supreme Court in National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India.
If you have not signed yet, please do so now. If you have already signed, please share the petition widely with your networks so that more people can add their voices before the bill is taken up.
