Oppose Re-Zoning at 2190-2220 Wehrle Dr
The Issue
Petition Against the Proposed Zoning Change at 2190-2220 Wehrle Dr
We, the undersigned residents, property owners, and concerned citizens of Amherst, oppose the proposed zoning change for the property located at 2190-2220 Wehrle Dr.
This zoning change, if approved, would allow for high-density residential development which result in 366 apartment units with over 900 parking spaces being built on the 25 acre parcel. We believe this change would have significant adverse effects on our community, including further stressing utilities (such as water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer), negatively affect traffic, light pollution into existing single family residential neighborhoods, putting undo stress on local school systems, and numerous other reasons.
Reasons for Our Opposition Include:
Impact on Local Infrastructure: The proposed development will place undue stress on our already overburdened infrastructure, including roads, public transportation, and utility systems. The poor water pressure and overburden sewer systems in the area will only get worse.
Threat to Neighborhood Character: This change threatens the low density residential and peaceful nature of our community.
Decline in Property Values: The proposed zoning change could lower the property values of homes and businesses in the surrounding area.
Quality of Life Issues: The project could introduce noise, traffic, and other disruptions that would diminish the quality of life for local residents.
We now call on the Town Board to reject the rezoning as the Planning Board rubber stamped the developers plan to profit at the expense of the neighbors and town residents.
Reject the proposed zoning change for the property located at 2190-2220 Wehrle Dr.
Consider alternative solutions that are more in line with the community's needs and priorities that have been suggested by the community members but ignored by the developer.
