Oppose My dog Silas From Being Deemed Potentially Dangerous
The Issue
This is a Petition My Fiancé And I are starting because the Town Of Phillipsburg NJ is trying to deem our Pit mix Potentially Dangerous. On May 30th at around 4:30pm our dog who’s 64 Pounds jumped our 4ft Fence as a lady and her one big pit mix and small dog were walking by and bit the lady’s 81 pound Pit Mix but never went after her and her little dog she was also walking . I wasn’t home when it happened but my fiancé was. He told me that he strongly believes our dog was Provoked not only because he has never hopped the fence before but because he stated that the lady had little to no control over her dogs and we’re letting them wonder closer and closer to the outside and let them bark on the outside of our 4ft fence. Our dog has never bitten any other animal or person in the passed. He also has never shown aggression towards other dogs. We have had him around many other dogs before and kids and has never once hurt them. He is the sweetest thing ever he just needed some basic training and for us to get a better understanding of him and to better his needs which we started training on June 6th. Our dog trainer even dog tested him by walking a stuffed dog by the fence and all he did was bark a few times. We have video footage of that and him around other dogs. We also passed by her on leash and he showed barely any care and no reaction to the fake dog. He has done a complete 180 since we started his training. I wouldn’t say complete 360 because he needs more training which we plan to keep up with. We just wish people would take a step back and get the chance to learn and understand dogs and help them before deeming them such a harsh Stereotype. Just like people he needed help and we got him the help and understanding that he needed to really express that he is such an amazing dog. Why they would judge off of one complete freak incident with no other prior incidents is beyond our knowledge. Their is no video proof of what happened and our neighbors won’t work with us because they have always had so much hate for our dog because of his breed and how he barked a lot outside before we got him into training. Our dog also got hurt pretty decently by the other dog but yes he did hurt her dog too which we paid in fully the vet bills of the dog that our dog went after “without reasoning too”. It’s completely wrong for this town to be doing what their doing. They have a rule in their handbook on rules and regulations in the town and it states “ Their cannot be a fence higher than 4ft in the front of your yard”. How that is fair is beyond us as well. So with lots of discussions we decided well the only way to prove to them this won’t happen again is to put a higher fence in our front since many other people in the town have full on privacy fences in the front of their yard. So how is this fair it’s not and it’s wrong. So now we have a 6ft chain link fence in the front we attached it too the old 4ft chain link fence that was their and put in over 20 years ago. I also wanna address that the house we live is is fully owned by my aunt she lives downstairs and we live upstairs. She is elderly and has a lot of health issues and this is also putting a lot on her when she just wants the best for our dog and us. Our court Date is coming up around the corner on July 17th. We hope we can get a lot of people to sign this and understand our dog like we do and many people do because this is completely unfair. We are willing to do whatever is takes to Prove he is far from potentially Dangerous/Dangerous to anyone and our town.
