In March 2023 several neighbourhoods across Cape Town experienced the impact of the extremely high volume emitted from the Ultra Music Festival that took place at the Kenilworth Racecourse.

Given its close proximity to residential areas, the venue is inappropriate for an event of this nature. In the main, the reasons for calling for the reconsideration of the venue include:

• consultation was not done broadly enough, certainly not beyond ward 58, for the 2023 event;
• the 2024 event is being advertised without the permit having been signed off by the City of Cape Town;
• no consideration given to the impact of the noise on the wildlife inhabiting the Kenilworth Racecourse Conservation Area;  and
• inappropriate choice of venue which sets the precedent for similar future events.

Surely a most suitable location can be booked?
