Hi everyone! Sorry for the late update, but thanks to all your support, we are at over 1,000 signatures! Please keep sharing this petition to your friends and family, because the more public awareness there is, the more support we have!
My girl scout troop and I met with the GSCNC CEO and an Officer of the Board of Directors (Wendy White) on January 6, 2023. We discussed the sale of the forest and heard these leaders' point of view.
While GSCNC acknowledged our point of view for conservation, they did not explicitly state that they would not sell to developers. The meeting ended with the CEO agreeing to sit down with the parks commission to negotiate a deal. So, there is still work to be done.
Please show your support by writing emails to the CEO and GSCNC Board of Directors (which you can find here: GSCNC Staff Directory ) asking for more information, and pushing for GSCNC to make their sale based on what is best for our environment and local community.
If you are part of the Girl Scouts organization, show this petition to your Service Unit Manager or troop leader and see what you can do!
GSCNC has yet to give a public comment about this sale, but we know they want to use the money to create a financial endowment to care for their existing camps. We understand their responsibilities, but preservation of our land needs to come first, and they have an option to sell to the parks commission.
This project is moving forward, and with everyone's support, we will continue to advocate for GSCNC to do the right thing. Keep raising awareness, thanks!
