We will present this petition in opposition to the Grand Lagoon planned development of two Marriott hotels with an adjoining waterpark, which the developer refers to as a resort, this week.
Specifically, this petition and our data points in opposition to the planned development will be submitted to the Bay County Commissioners, and the Planning and Zoning Board, via email tomorrow. A Bay County Planning and Zoning official told us our documents will be retained in the developer's file. The developer is The Jay Odom Hotel Group, LLC. Jay Odom is the President and CEO of the business. He appeared in a WJHG News Channel 7 news story and stated Bay County Commissioners are eager to develop Grand Lagoon (paraphrase). That was news to Grand Lagoon residents.
We will attend the Bay County Commissioners meeting Tuesday, April 2, 2024 and go on the record with our opposition. We have separate meetings to speak with County Commissioners Claire Pease and then Robert Carroll Wednesday, April 3 at 2:30 pm and 3 p.m. , respectively. We are still working to schedule meetings with the other County Commissioners and thank the Commissioners for their willingness to discuss not only our concerns but also our request to partner with them to build a master plan for Grand Lagoon growth and development.
We will share our data points to this Facebook page and to the petition webpage tomorrow for your review. This list is the result of a technical review of the developer's documents and the gathering of your comments and concerns. We welcome all comments and remind Grand Lagoon residents that if you choose to sign the petition, you do not have to donate money. All donations go to change.org - not this opposition.
Please join us at Tuesday's Commisssioning meeting and voice your opposition. If you cannot join, please send a letter voicing your concerns to the Commissioners. You can also view the meeting on the Bay County Commission website.
