The La Jolla Town Council, in partnership with the Save the La Jolla Bike Path Coalition, is hosting a 5G Cell Towers Town Hall on Thursday, Feb 13, 2025, at La Jolla High School’s Parker Auditorium. The event aims to inform residents about a proposed AT&T and DISH Wireless plan to install a 30-ft 5G cell tower and a diesel generator along the La Jolla Bike Path, a well-used open space frequented by pedestrians, cyclists, and community members.

The town hall will feature Dr. Kent Chamberlin, Ph.D., President of the Environmental Health Trust and Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Chamberlin will present research on radio frequency (RF) radiation and its potential effects on health and the environment, providing insights into an ongoing discussion about wireless infrastructure in residential areas.

Community leaders, including Mary Soriano (President, La Jolla Town Council), John Shannon (Vice President, La Jolla Parks and Beaches, Inc.), Patti Garay (Chair, Save the La Jolla Bike Path Coalition), and other local advocates, will share information and perspectives on the project. The event will also introduce a proposed model ordinance that could establish guidelines for cell tower placement in residential neighborhoods.

This town hall offers an opportunity for community members to learn more about the proposed infrastructure, hear expert analysis, and engage in a public discussion about wireless technology, safety, and local planning considerations. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the conversation.
