Opening a New Iraqi Consulate in Wales - Cardiff

The Issue

The current accessibility to consular services for the Iraqi diaspora living in the UK leaves room for significant improvement. As it stands, those requiring consular services must travel to the main Iraqi consulate located in London. This trip can pose significant challenges, particularly for the elderly, working families, and those with limited access to transport. It's also worth noting that the Manchester and Ireland consulates lacks the capacity to provide the same range of services as the London consulate. There isn’t any access to an Iraqi Consulate in the centre of everyone which makes it difficult for people to get their documentations and have a service provided to them.

Cardiff is a city which is accessible to many other areas than they are to London, Manchester and Ireland. Also, London is over populated and very prone to high traffic areas making parking, accessibility and cost a challenge for applicants. The Iraqi consulate in London is in central London which makes traffic, cost and travel fees more challenging than a city like Cardiff which does not have any congestion charges and not as busy as London, therefore attending the Consulate in Cardiff, Wales will be much better for the community.

Cardiff, a city that harbors a significant portion of the Iraqi community in the UK, currently lacks an Iraqi consulate. By establishing a new consulate in Cardiff, we can better meet the needs of Iraqi citizens living in and around the area, saving them the arduous journey to London. Besides, this move would likely increase service utilisation, as easier access typically leads to higher service engagement.

If this change is put into place, we will be increasing accessibility for any applicants that which to have access to Iraqi Consular services and will reduce to pressure from the London Consulate as it’s the main point of access. Also, elderly and many unable to travel the distance to London for an application or service they require, will be able to minimise the stress of travelling a far distance and struggling with the crowds of Central London. Many people in Wales and surrounding areas complain consistently about not being able to always go to London for whichever application they need doing therefore this will please many and resolve the issue. Neglecting this issue could potentially limit the rights and privileges of Iraqi citizens and any other applicants in the UK, due to difficulties in attaining necessary official documents, assistance, and information from their home embassy.

It is of high importance for this petition to be considered as it will assist everyone struggling with this matter and will support the public with all their needs met. It will also give a variety of location options for whoever is closer to which location and minimises the stress of travel and fees and difficulties to obtaining Iraqi documentation.

Please consider this petition to help support the large population of individuals that require these important services!
