Open Delhi NCR schools for in-person classes for all grades 1-12

Open Delhi NCR schools for in-person classes for all grades 1-12
The Issue
- Children are not isolated even if they stay at home as parents are still going out and household help is coming in.
- The Disease has shown mild symptoms in most cases where kids have been infected.
- There is evidence to show that schools have not been the main driver of Covid 19 transmissions in communities.
- Lack of social interaction is leading to psychological problems. Cases of Depression and anxiety have been recorded. Children have had reduced physical activity, poorer diets and in many cases exposure to domestic violence as well.
- Doctors are reporting increasing behavioural issues, internet addiction, childhood obesity, insulin resistance, precocious puberty, decreasing bone mineral density in children.
- Physical activity in school is essential for all round development and physical development. It has been proven that physical games and activities lead to better management of sleep and emotions. Keeping children at home will result in disturbances in all these areas of child development.
- Children with mental and/or physical disabilities have also been suffering as an online mode does not work for them.
- Parents have to go to work/office leaving kids unattended at home with devices.
- Hand and motor skills are not developing as they should for younger children because of the online mode of education.
- Our children will be interacting as global citizens with other kids across the world where other kids have not suffered due to closure of schools. This does not go in their favour and puts them behind the others.
- Reducing the syllabus and changing exam patterns to make them simpler to suit the online mode will put children at a disadvantage in later senior classes and at the college level.
- The large numbers of children going to government schools has lost out on 2 years of education due to lack of access to proper devices and regular internet connection.
- The repurcussions of school closure for our children and our community will be felt for years to come and many children may not be able to catch up at all.
- School Transport (buses) must be provided to enable all children to travel to school without depending on parents.
- Hybrid mode must be replaced by 100% in-person classes so that all children have an equal opportunity to learn.
- The fact that malls, markets, restaurants and cinemas are open at 50% capacity and schools are shut does not make logical sense. Is it correct to put economics and entertainment ahead of the mental well-being of our future generation??
- Maharashtra Government has already announced that schools for grades 1-12 will reopen from 24/01/2022.
- COVID is not likely to disappear anytime soon and we have to move on and deal with it as best as possible. We must allow children to have a normal school routine.
- The right to go to school is central to every child's normal development and their physical and mental well-being. Children are our future and their needs must be put before all else.
Let us open schools, prioritize support for schools, get back to in-person learning NOW and give our children a chance to get the educational environment that they deserve and have a right to.
