Dear Colleagues
Our requests are feasible and it will positively impact the health of millions of Ontarians that visit pharmacists every single day.
The plan is waiting for elections to end and we know who are our MPP's, I can co-visit with you your MPP to introduce our position and what we think is feasible and reasonable to request from the new government.
We are aware that OPA has been working on funding for expanded scope and we are here as non-OPA pharmacists support their efforts.
We are aware that certain buying groups had negotiations with a provider to come to reasonable terms and we support them too.
We are supporting every effort that would improve the sustainability prospects of many pharmacies.
Our main request is proper Pay for Pharmacists, linking that with billing number is a step towards a new generation of pharmacies and pharmacists where exchange of information will be our only task/trade while the technical part will be done by other pharmacy staff.
How did I come to that conclusion?
Generic companies keep on dropping their prices and the green light given to ACCELL is a sign that the future will not be sustainable by generics rebates.
Pharmacy markup is being targeted to cut expenses and soon with the crippling of generic companies our wholesalers will increase their upcharge to be able to cover their expenses and be able to make profit.
What is left?
Dispensing fees which are going down with some providers offering at their pharmacies a group discount.
Expensive medications are now handled by speciality pharmacies, Compounding done by Compounding pharmacies.
What is left?
Our ability to charge for our intellectual property.
Pay us or officials announce that those services are not covered by OHIP.
