We are glad to announce that double votes for business in the City of Sydney has now been abolished with the passing of the City of Sydney Amendment Bill 2023.

We are disappointed however that this reform doesn't go far enough and still allow business owners to vote in multiple local government areas. When we wrote to Ron Hoenig MP in June the response stated that the government is "currently consulting with key stakeholders on possible reforms to the City of Sydney’s non-residential elector franchise".

Unfortunately no consultation has taken place with residents, who are most definitely key stakeholders.

To that end we're organising a Zoom meeting for 7:30pm, Thurs 28 Sept with residents to discuss a unified approach and any shared actions to take.

To start the meeting, we'll hear from election expert Ben Raue from The Tally Room, who wrote this recent piece on the matter. Ben will speak for 10 minutes followed by questions. After that we'll have an open discussion. The meeting will not be recorded.
