Thanks to everyone who has signed the petition so far. We urge everyone to forward this petition to friends. This corruption of the basic democratic principle of "one vote one value" cannot abide. Imagine if the principles being invoked to justify two votes for business were rolled out to other local councils, or state and federal government! It is encouraging however that many voices support our view that this voting bill is undemocratic. For example senior lecturer in politics Dr Peter Chen of Sydney University: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/city-east/city-of-sydney-election-doubling-businesses-votes-favours-liberals-political-analyst/news-story/c00050c1fec51632f42ad843b8c1597c Melbourne councillors and residents: http://www.altmedia.net.au/melbourne-councilors-and-residents-warn-against-business-voting-bill/97255 Sydney Lawyer Tim Dick: http://www.smh.com.au/comment/business-shouldnt-get-a-vote-in-any-fair-election-20160717-gq7gzh.html Finally, our combined residents groups are hosting a Lord Mayoral Candidates Forum this Wed Aug 10 at 7pm in Alexandria Town Hall. Come and hear about local issues, local democracy and bring your questions for the Q&A session. Confirmed candidates so far include Lindsay Johnston (Greens), Clover Moore (Independent), Linda Scott (Labor), and Angela Vithoulkas (Sydney Matters). For more info head to: bit.do/cosforum
