We received a response from Dr. Miner yesterday: no decision to pause or reverse the 7:20 AM proposal has been made. A study session is scheduled for September, but no commitment either way.
We are disappointed. Weeks of community work, speeches, comments, analysis, media coverage, and thousands of voices — and the answer is that nothing has changed. We wrote back to let her know: we will remain active until this decision is formally paused or reversed.
There is one question we are determined to answer this summer: at the June 30 board study session, a question was raised about whether the opposition truly represents the broader community — or just a vocal minority. We take that question seriously. Here is what our early analysis already shows.
The district's "community support" claim does not hold up :
The families who will actually live with 7:20 AM — those with children in 3rd grade and younger — opposed it by nearly 2 to 1. The "community support" headline was driven by upper elementary, middle, and high school families whose children would benefit from later starts when this takes effect. Secondary families were counted twice — once as students, once as parents — inflating the number further. And the families with the highest stake — incoming kindergarteners and their parents — were excluded entirely.
The survey result is mechanically flawed. It was not designed to capture the views of the families most affected — it was designed to produce a favorable number.
The district called it community support. The data calls it something else. More detailed analysis is on the way.

1. Share the petition. Every new signature is a direct answer to the board's question.
2. Grow our coalition. The larger and more united we are walking into September, the harder we are to dismiss.

It will be the definitive resource for anyone who wants to understand what this proposal actually means for Edmonds families.
Our children don't have a voice in the boardroom or in the survey. We are theirs.
