The Issue

We request that Jailer Jeff Tindall terminate both his 287(g) agreements with ICE (Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement), and we ask that Sheriff Tim Wakefield not consider any further agreements with ICE.

Background:

Kentucky Citizens for Democracy has concluded that Oldham County has entered a 287(g) agreement with ICE (Immigration Customs and Enforcement) as a result of our county’s efforts to raise money to help pay off our $23 million dollar Detention Center and to help pay for its operating budget.

Since President Trump came back into office, ICE has been following his mandate to sweep up as many undocumented persons as possible. In its haste to fulfill this order, ICE has become a rogue agency that appears to have no regard for individuals’ constitutional rights or the rule of law.

It is because of ICE’s willingness to disregard individuals’ constitutional rights to due process that we do not want our county to have any agreement with this agency. We have a moral issue with our county using its money and resources to taxi immigration prisoners in and out of our jails. We do not believe this is what our jailers or deputies should be doing with their time and our resources.

We encourage everyone to sign our petition for the Oldham County Detention Center to end its relationship with ICE.
