ASOC OhloneFremont, CA, United States
Aug 15, 2019
It took 7 months of planning, hundreds of hours of work, over a hundred students and community leaders' involvement, and nearly 400 signatures on a letter to the board. But we did it. Article 6 is officially history, and ASOC's budget is officially unfrozen and free of unwarranted admin spending. There were many points along the way that many of us at ASOC believed we may be expelled or even sued for our work. During the 2019 ASOC election, Executive members knew if they showed support for removing Article 6, they were at risk of being removed off the ballot. It was through the relentless support of the ASOC Family of the Exec Council, Student Administration's Branches, ICC's Clubs, ASOC's alumni network, as well as of course our allies at SSCCC, BAYA, and student governments and community leaders across the state that we could complete this mission. (Also not to mention the Ohlone meme page 'Ohlone Memes for NonTransferable Teens') Special thank you to our most vocal advocates on the Ohlone board Trustee Tawny Warren and Trustee Vivian Larsen, and of course Trustee Richard Watters who made the final winning motion that restored ASOC's budget in full. To everyone who has supported us through this journey, of which there is literally too many to name, thank you so much for your support in making history at our college, and restoring student rights at Ohlone.
