OHIO UNIVERSITY: BRING BACK S/NC GRADING POLICY 2021

El problema

Since the start of the pandemic, Ohio University has provided the option to opt in for Satisfactory Grading. This policy allows OU students to take an "S" or "NC" (no credit) on their final grade to avoid hurting their overall GPA considering the countless struggles students have had to face.

As of January 19th, the policy has not be reinstated. The overwhelming concern of students, families, and facility alike are why we created this petition to show OU how important this grading policy is. We all chose to come to OU rather than online college for a reason, however with the rising cases in Ohio, the end of virtual class is far beyond our reach.

Although students have returned to campus, the classes have not. While we remain virtual, students deserve the option to opt in for Satisfactory Grading. In the fall semester, 10,000 students took "S" grades, 559 of those students had no letter grades at all and only had an "S" to pass their classes.

Many other Ohio schools are keeping the pass/fail grading opportunity -- we feel Ohio University ought to do the same. Everyone has a story, and right now the last thing on many of our minds is the assignments we must submit but our focus is towards the well being of our friends, family, and community.

Whether or not you choose to opt in is up to you, but having the option to do so is critical to the mental well being, academic success, and collegiate experience of Ohio University students. Student Senate has a bill in the works to urge the university to implement Satisfactory Grading, and the support of this petition will only help show the university what we as students need!
