As of Wednesday August 18th 2021, President Biden announced that there will be a mandate for all nursing homes in the United States to have their staff fully vaccinated or they will lose federal funding.

Nursing homes are already understaffed and working in unsafe conditions. The passing of this mandate will further harm the residents of these facilities vs helping them. Medical professionals all over the United States are now forced to decide how to react to this mandate. Do they stand up for what they believe in, lose their careers they've built, and the residents they have been caring for or do they go against their beliefs and be vaccinated?

We worked in the trenches of the healthcare system, we worked with what small amount of PPE we could get, we worked short staffed, we watched our residents die as we held their hands, we saw the pain in families faces at the windows because they couldn't be with their dying family member, we risked our lives, and we gave up seeing family and friends all for our passion of helping people. Now, it is going to be ripped away from us because of our own beliefs.

All staff wears the proper PPE. The PPE being worn is what the CDC has recommended for both unvaccinated and vaccinated healthcare workers. However, the CDC has NOT recommended a mandate of the vaccine. There has been no huge influx, as of late, of Covid 19 cases in facilities with both vaccinated and unvaccinated employees wearing the proper PPE recommended. If the CDC suggests that the use of proper PPE is an effective way of preventing the spread of Covid 19, then why are is the government forcing healthcare workers who are unvaccinated to get the vaccine? It is our right to say no to putting unwanted things in our bodies.

A little over half of Americans are fully vaccinated which leaves half of Americans that are not. A good portion of the people who have chosen not to receive the vaccine are still supportive of other vaccines that have had years of research done on them. It is our right to be apprehensive of a vaccine that was created in such a short period of time and one that we have very little knowledge of the long term effects. Just because many chose right now not to be vaccinated does not mean after more research is done that they won't get vaccinated.

We were once deemed as heroes and now we are a threat?  Now we will be unemployed for standing up for what we believe in. It is our right as human beings to say no!

Please help us stop this mandate from harming millions of healthcare workers and their residents who will suffer more because of a huge loss of staff!

Edit:  On Thursday September 9th 2021, President Biden announced that ALL healthcare workers will now be subject to vaccine mandates as well as ANY company that has 100 or more employees. We must stick together. We must all fight this.

This petition was originally started to help nursing home workers fight the mandates. Now it will be directed towards ALL healthcare workers.
