University of Dayton admits BIZARRE rationale for debate exclusions

Open The Debates!
9 sept. 2018

We've seen a lot of bullshit rationales for the exclusion of third party and independent candidates from political debates. In fact, there's an entire Commission on Presidential Debates that exists for that very purpose!

But we're still a little bit shocked to see this one from the University of Dayton:

To make the debate as widely viewed as possible across the State of Ohio, candidate participation was based on polling at least 10% statewide under accepted polling methodology at the time of the debate announcement. No other candidates met this threshold.

It's just so transparently meritless that it takes the cake. Perhaps it was designed to expose the lies that help to prop up the failing two-party system, in which case, it's just brilliant. But if it was meant to actually put lipstick on this rotting pig, then it is so deeply cynical and out of touch, especially coming from an institution of higher learning, especially when 71% of millennials are screaming out for a third major party to challenge the corrupt duopoly.

It's too good to not make serious traction with it. Let's do what we can to help the University of Dayton reach the widest viewership possible across the State of Ohio by sharing the shit out of this petition. Every single Ohioan, at the very least, deserves to know that they have FOUR candidates to choose from. And they should know that they might have to research these candidates for themselves because the Ohio media, led by Cox Media Group, is going along with this farce and framing the election as a two-way contest.
