Recently, it came to the attention of Sanford High students that our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Goldsmith, was being reassigned to patrol effective early January. Officer Goldsmith does not have a say in this change. As of today, students among the 2025 class began to organize a petition of his reassignment.

 Officer Goldsmith has left a long-lasting impact on the students here. As a result, this abrupt change has many heartbroken, frustrated, and overly emotional. During his tenure as the SRO at Sanford High, Officer Goldsmith has built relationships that cannot be created with a new officer overnight. As such, the students in Sanford High and staff alike have asked to, at the minimum, retain Officer Goldsmith as our SRO until the 2024-25 school year ends. That is what this petition is for, to keep Officer Goldsmith in the school for the rest of the 2024-25 year.  

I would like to make it abundantly clear that we should remain civil. If you would like to write letters you can to the superintendent of Sanford high school and the chief of police recognizing officer Goldsmith and appreciating him. Officer Goldsmith has had nothing to do with this petition, however many of us have recognized that he is upset himself.
