My aim is to cancel the TV show ‘The Extreme Diet Hotel’ which is currently being aired on Channel 4 in the UK. 

The premise of this show is to ‘help’ a group of overweight people lose an unhealthy amount of weight in an unhealthy period of time by eating 450 calories a day, on top of intensive exercise. 

This will inevitably send the message to young, impressionable and insecure people that you must do whatever you can to be thin. Thin is a way to make yourself more desireable and worthy as a human being, emphasising the already established idea of ‘fat to thin, happy within’. 

This narrative is all too common and will inevitably be destructive for not only the people on the show, but the people watching at home. 

I am sick of the media exploiting the insecurites of young people, all in the name of ‘entertainment’.

This show highlights everything that is wrong with westernisation and how diet culture is such an ingrained, deep-rooted ideal that so many hold.
