The Issue

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Old Dominion University has canceled the regularly planned May 2020 Commencement Ceremonies. The University has stated that they do not have a distinct answer as to what graduation will look like but that they will provide us with a virtual celebration to commemorate our hard work.

We understand the safety and well-being of the students and faculty is a top priority, and that canceling the graduation ceremony is the safest route, but it is still extremely devastating to the class of 2020. We believe that our hard work and accomplishments should not go unnoticed without experiencing the proper ceremonial acts, such as walking in graduation, even if it is at a later date.

On behalf of our graduating class, please join us in signing this petition to move the Old Dominion University Class of 2020’s May Commencement Ceremony to a later point in the Summer.
