Occupy Amazon: Stop Firing Union Organizers
The Issue
Mr. Andy Jassy, CEO
Amazon
410 Terry Ave N,
Seattle, WA 98109
Dear Mr. Jassy,
We’re glad to see that management recently reinstated Jennifer Bates, an Amazon worker and well known union organizer to her position at the Bessemer warehouse after being unfairly discharged.
Management retaliation for workers engaged in protected concerted activity is all too common at Amazon. . A worker speaks out in support for the mutual aid and defense of their co-workers and is terminated under dubious circumstances. We’ve seen and heard it too many times.
While Operations Management has made the right decision to reverse Ms. Bate’s termination there are dozens of people who have lost their livelihood, health, stability, and more, due to the immoral, unethical, and unlawful firings of workers who are actively engaged in organizinge for collective bargaining or speaking out for better wages and working conditions. This is unacceptable.
The undersigned Amazon workers, elected officials, community stakeholders other individuals or organizations demand that just as Jennifer Bates has been reinstated, that all Amazon workers who have been unfairly and unlawfully terminated across the world also be reinstated. Amazon must immediately cease and desist any other firings, intimidation, or other suppression of concerted, protected labor organizing at the company.
.We will be including an addendum with the names and locations of other organizers who have been unfairly terminated, and will list more if you continue to fire our sisters and brothers in our struggle for dignity, rights and respect.
We will not forget or forgive management’s aggressive interference in our struggle to improve working conditions at Amazon and will seek accountability for each and every worker whose life and livelihood you interfered with
Sincerely,
The undersigned workers and other supporters seeking to improve working conditions at Amazon for the good jobs our communities need ( AKA Occupy Amazon)
