As most of you will already know, Newcastle City Council abandoned the East Jesmond Low Traffic Neighbourhood Scheme and removed all the bollards and barricades on Monday (5th February)

This has been a fantastic victory for local democracy. Thank you to all 4821 of you who signed the petition. Your signatures were instrumental in raising the profile of the campaign and bringing it to the attention of the wider city and the local media.

We are indebted to the tireless work of the One Jesmond campaign group and its supporters. Over the last ten months One Jesmond has been a constant force for democracy and transparency against Newcastle City Council.

For those in the Council who may have made a considerable political and emotional investment in the scheme this must have been a difficult decision to come to terms with. It's a great relief that they have finally listened to the concerns of local people and businesses.
