While community residents had expressed their objections and thought this issue, which starts in 2021, has been in the history, Minister Josie Osborne and Minister Nathan Cullen still approved the “ Rezoning “ application, (despite overwhelming objection comments on the Cannabis store from the voice of community. )This petition has collected 1647 signatures last year, when the Rezone past, another 180 signatures added within 2 months. We are people live, study, send families to, graduate from UBC, people who care about UBC! How and Why did the Rezoning been approved without listening to the community?

Sadly Burb cannabis moves forward to this 2nd application step “ Licensing”. ( Decision made on June 6, than Jun 24, 2022). The decision makers may not know how special academic reputation UBC is, may not know that UBC has high density of minors/families, may not know the multicultural demography is not ready for cannabis store in the neighbourhoods, may not know that the store location is on an unincorporated land which do not have the ability to regulate cannabis store….the decision makers maybe influenced by Burb Cannabis and approve the License!! The government can not issue the license if residents say “We don’t want it!” We need more help to amplify community’s objection voice!

How you can help:

1. Through your social connections, ask your neighbours and friends to sign this petition. https://www.change.org/STOPcannabisstoreinUBC  Please state your relationship with UBC ( ex. UBC students, UBC residents…)
2. Write an email to Metro Vancouver to oppose the cannabis licensing application. ( By May 30, 2022) You can contact them through the email (Marcin.Pachcinski@metrovancouver.org ), and to copy (cc) Jen McCutcheon, Metro Vancouver Director for Electoral Area A (areaajen@gmail.com).
3. Email to (delegations@metrovancouver.org )(http://www.metrovancouver.org/boards/delegations/committees/Pages/default.aspx )to be a delegate to speak in the meeting of Electoral Area A Committee. (By May 30, 2022), This meeting is scheduled at 9am Thursday June 9th, 2022 at Metrotower 3, 28F-4515 Central Blvd., Burnaby. Residents of all ages are welcome, it can be in person or online.

Let’s STOP Cannabis Store in UBC/UNA/UEL! 

背景: 2021年春，Burb Cannabis大麻店向大學保留地（UEL）申請在UBC village一個店面進行土地變更（rezoning）許可。超過300人向UEL發email表示反對，不到20個人支持或中立。截至今天已收集近1827個簽名反對在UEL內開設大麻店。這些都是和UBC相關的人，大部分都是居住、學習，送孩子來學習或者畢業於UBC.同時Burb cannabis也利用各種手段與主流民意抗衡。

儘管反對的評論是贊成的評論的20倍之多，據五月公佈的消息，這個申請仍然被BC省市政管理局Minister Josie Osborne 和 Minister Nathan Cullen通過。社區的強烈反對為什麼被忽視？當局沒有給出任何理由。

我們現在能做什麼？

下一步是大麻店牌照License的申請階段，6月9日和6月24日分別在A選區域會議（7個席位）和大溫董事會（40個席位）上表決，其中只有Jen McCutcheon 一票代表是住在UBC，其他都是21位市長和第一民族代表，他們或許不瞭解UBC內家庭和孩子人口密度極高，多元文化的居民和學生仍然不太能夠接受大麻店開在家旁邊，很有可能受Burb大麻公司的影響而投票表決通過，我們需要大家寫信或是出席6/9，6/24的會議，請填寫以下表格幫助我們把大麻店拒之門外！！https://forms.gle/xuvNVFGvosXRyu9V9
