Dear Supporters,
There are 3 days left for you to make your voice heard and register your objection to the conversion of Christ Church Longcross into 5 flats by emailing the Runnymede Planning Authority directly.
Today we share with you the objection our Patron, Michael J Strang, a leading impressionist painter in the UK has sent in.
He also shares with us a photo of his painting "Eternal Rest under the Blossom Tree" he painted in the church graveyard in 1989.
"I write to protest about the possibility of Longcross Church being ‘turned into’ five flats in order to make vast sums of money for a developer and the Churches collusion in this situation.
This is a magical and Holy place imbued with the prayers of ages and not subject to the laws of Mammon. Desecration is ‘ the act of depriving something of it’s sacred character or the disrespectful, contemptuous or destructive treatment of that which is held to be sacred or holy by a group or individual.
In my mind summing up perfectly this situation. The infrastructure required for such work must disturb the magical peace of this divine spot and the future use of the Church make a mockery of the The words ‘Rest in Peace.’
My Dear Parents are buried here as I myself could be one day. My Father was a second world war hero and gave five years of his life to preserve the democracy we all enjoy today and this proposal, to my mind, violates his memory.
I include images of their resting places and some paintings of the Church which I have created over the last thirty years or so. I am a professional Artist of Fifty years standing and would like to underline the poetical beauty of Longcross." Michael J Strang
