Save Oban House from Demolition

Save Oban House from Demolition
The Issue
New plans have arisen which involve the demolition of Oban House (8 Chilwell Rd, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 1EJ) as part of proposal to build a new medical centre.
They're here online
These plans are up before Planning Committee on Wednesday 5 October.
Oban House is within St John's Grove Conservation Area, and on the boundary of Beeston West End Conservation Area, and sits face-to-face with our Grade II Listed St. John the Baptist Parish Church.
It is a Victorian detached property, and part of Beeston heritage. Its removal will impact two Conservation Areas and the church – all Designated Heritage Assets. It will detrimentally affect the character of the area, and will constitute the loss of a heritage building Beeston can ill-afford to lose.
While the Society understands the need for additional GP surgeries in the area, especially with the demise of previous surgeries, and the increase in developments and HMOs in the vicinity, we believe the existing building should be retained, repurposed and extended at the rear.
Our wishes, and the needs of Manor Surgery are not mutually exclusive.
Repurpose and extend Oban House for a beautiful pharmacy and Surgery which puts a heritage building back into use, and retains and conserves the Conservation Area character.
The plans submitted represent mediocre design and are incongruous to the neighbouring properties. Oban House as a frontage is far superior.
We reject ugly design; expect aspirational, progressive and beautiful additions to our town which protect, celebrate and enhance our heritage.
The UK demolishes 50,000 building a week. We join in the national campaign #retrofirst to fight wasteful demolition. Demolition should be a last resort - especially with buildings of heritage, character, and beauty.
