"There will be an independent inquiry into historical claims of abuse of children in State care with a view to learning lessons to ensure that policy is changed to minimise the risk of this happening in the future."
From a speech delivered by Dame Patsy Reddy, GNZM, QSO, Governor-General of New Zealand, on the occasion of the State Opening of Parliament, Wednesday 8 November 2017.
This is a significant step up from the Labour party election promise to hold a ministerial inquiry into #childabuse.
However it is still far from a full Royal Commission of Inquiry into all abuse - with historical concerns matched by contemporary issues.
Pressure is working - there just needs to be a lot more of it.
