NYC Pride: Ban Hospitals That Abandoned Trans Kids From Marching on June 28
The Issue
NYC Pride marches on June 28. And right now, transgender advocates, current and former grand marshals, parents of trans children, and LGBTQ+ organizations are calling on Heritage of Pride to do one thing before that march begins: bar the hospital systems that abandoned trans youth from walking in it.
NYU Langone Health and Mount Sinai — two of New York City's most prominent hospital systems — have both closed or curtailed their gender-affirming care programs for transgender minors under pressure from the Trump administration. NYU Langone became the first hospital in the country to be criminally subpoenaed for the private medical records of patients who received gender-affirming care as minors. Rather than fight the subpoena alongside their patients, these institutions capitulated.
Trans youth across this country are facing an unprecedented assault on their healthcare, their dignity, and their right to exist openly. While some institutions have stood firm, NYU Langone, Mount Sinai, and New York Presbyterian chose to preemptively end care for the most vulnerable young people in their communities — not because a court ordered them to, but because they were afraid.
Pride was born from resistance. It was built by people who refused to be erased by institutions that did not protect them. Allowing hospitals that abandoned trans kids to march in celebration of the community they failed is not inclusion. It is a contradiction.
Grand marshals Bowen Yang, Dominique Jackson, and Peppermint have signed on. Former grand marshals including Jazz Jennings, Michelle Visage, and Raquel Willis have signed on. Thirty-three parents of transgender children have signed on.
We stand with transgender advocates:
We're calling on Heritage of Pride to immediately bar any hospital system that has ended gender-affirming care for trans minors or cooperated with the DOJ's attempts to access their private medical records from participating in the 2026 NYC Pride March.
